Who is Fooling Who? Uganda Signed the Anti-Gay Bill, Yet Continued Accepting Funding for LGBTQ+ Awareness.

Uganda’s government is facing intense scrutiny after revelations surfaced that it had been accepting foreign aid for LGBTQ+ programs despite signing one of the world’s toughest anti-gay laws. The funding, exposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump in 2025, had been funneled through USAID and other international bodies, directed at LGBTQ+ rights and health initiatives. The public, however, was kept in the dark about these funds until Trump’s announcement, leaving many questioning the government’s true motives.

The irony is glaring: Uganda passes harsh anti-gay laws in the name of protecting its values, yet continues to take foreign money meant to promote the very rights it’s actively denying. Now, with the funding cut off, Ugandans are demanding answers: How was this money spent? Was it used to fund programs that go against the country’s laws? The public is left asking, "Who is fooling who?" As the government navigates this contradiction, the truth remains unclear, was it a political game, or a deeper betrayal of the people’s trust? Only transparency can resolve this political paradox.
